Abstract experiment with form and composition. Oil on canvas. 2013.
Created during my Foundations in Clay class. Using 2 different sized stencils of black-weight Meta "X," I carved, or painted around them in composition that I liked. This whole thing was inspired by my Typography one class studies of Meta as a typeface. It was a focus on going back to my GD roots in school as I made this in my last semester. 2016
Experiment in using contracting color in a painting. Oil on Paper. 2013.
The form was inspired by ancient mesoamerican pottery — brought to my attention by the Mesoamerican history class I was taking at the time. "Wa," just came out of my sketching for the project, but some research into Mayan words after I finished this piece lead me to realize that "wa," translates to "shout." I was much happier with this piece after learning that. As for the color, this is what happen when you use the chartreuse glaze with three different application techniques: Yellow came from dipping, Black came from spray painting, white came from brushing. 2016.
From a book arts class. I really wanted to experiment with blackletter typesetting using contemporary fraktur type. Using stab-bound binding wasn't really the best option for this book and its intentions, but I am really happy with the page design, clean justification, and the bottom of page 14. The page numbers rotate around the text block as the story progresses. 2016.
